well, i searched the whole office. it's not here. i got the department secretary to check the archived files at the university. there's no file there, either. it's gone. he took it. i'm sorry, jane. oh, it's all right, rigsby. thanks for everything. we'll see you when you get back. on whom he relies for company and emotional support. he's well-spoken, good posture, self-possessed. in the waiting room, he sat calmly in one place, needing no distraction. (whistling) though i note, he is an excellent whistler. his self-presentation is pleasant, but there are hints in his behavior of a damaged and narcissistic personality. (speaking inaudibly) he says he deals with conflict and adversity easily, though. i'm not convinced he's being truthful about this. in fact, much of what he said, though spoken convincingly, did not match what i can only call my instinctive response to his presence, though i cannot point to identifiable clinical behaviors that indicate this. i sense something deceptive and dark in his emotional makeup. however, there is every indication that his phobia issues are real-- whether acrophobia or some other issue remains to be seen.

how gas prices are affected by the shutdown but we start with more on a possible deal. >> reporter: on the sixth day of the government shutdown the halls of congress are empty and no one is at the negotiating table. house speaker john boehner says it's up to president obama to sit down with republicans if he wants to end the standoff. >> i decided to stay here in washington this weekend. he knows what my phone number is. all he has to do is call. >> reporter: president obama and senate democrats are calling for the house to pass a temporary funding bill to reopen the government with no strings attached. they also want a straight forward bill that will raise the country's debt limit but the u.s. runs out of money to pay its bills on october 17th. speaker boehner says the president will have to make some concessions. the votes are not in the house to pass a clean debt limit and the president is risking default by not having a conversation with us. >> reporter: on face the nation,

jack lou warned lawmakers are playing with fire. >> they shouldn't be inflicting self-inflicted wounds. >> reporter: boehner was challenged to put a clean bill to open the government to a test. >> put it on the floor monday or tuesday. i bet there are the votes to pass it. >> reporter: the house did pass a bill to give furlough workers the pay they're missing. . our complete coverage continues now with gigi barnett who has details on dropping gas prices an unintended consequence of the shutdown that has drivers smiling. >> reporter: almost a week since the government shut down for business, but it's more than a month of a dip in gas prices, and experts say the longer the government stays closed, the lower gas prices may drop. >> on the eve of the gov shutdown we saw that oil prices

are trading lower. >> reporter: aaa spokeswoman says what they're seeing is supply and demand, especially from furloughed federal workers. >> there are less motorists on the road particularly in washington and maryland areas, so that possibly could be having an impact as well. >> reporter: the end of the summer driving season and gas stations switching over to cheaper winter blend and it's the drivers who are saving big. >> i work out in buoy and that's a distance from here so i have to watch the gas prices. >> it ain't going to stick around forever so i am getting it now. >> reporter: drivers will see lower gas prices into the end of the year but it's keeping its eye on tropical storm karen in the gulf coast because damage there could cause prices to creep back up. in tonight's wjz pump watch report baltimore drivers are

paying $3.29 a gallon. that's down 21 cents from a month ago. we're learning more about the terrorist operations overseas. anas al-libi was taken outside of his home in broad daylight. he was indicted for the 1998 twin embassy bombings in kenya and tanzania. al-shabab terrorists claimed responsibility for the deadly kenyan mall attack a month ago and no one was taken into custody in that raid. one popular driver was sent to the hospital and fans are injured in the grand stands. >> oh! >> oh, no. oh my goodness.

that is a horrifying ride for franchitti. >> you can see fans ducking. the car went airborne, hit the fence and portions of the fence and the car went flying. >> we come here to race and put on a great show and we don't want to see anybody get hurt. >> franchitti who raced in the baltimore grand prix is in the hospital with two fractured vertebrae, a fractured right ankle and a concussion. 13 fans were also injured. the crash is under investigation. in washington, d.c. a deadly explosion rocks the metro. now officials are trying to determine what exactly went wrong. two metro train employees and a contractor were rushed to the hospital after crews doing weekend work on the red line were injured in a welding accident. the contractor died. metro says a fluid leak or mechanical problems caused a loud noise or explosion. the transit system is looking to

see if that caused a 40-foot rail to move and hit the workers. >> we know that a lot of heard working men and women are putting their lives on the line every day to make the system safe and i'm just -- i'm very sorry to have learned about this incident but we'll work with my colleagues on the board and awful the staff at metro who -- all of the staff at metro to get to the bottom of this. >> the tunnel explosion and fire happened near the union station platform. a portion of the red line had been shut down this weekend for track work. free shuttle buses helped passengers get around the districts. in 2010 two workers were killed by a piece of rail equipment. this past may fire erupted underneath a rail car at the silver spring metro station. metro has seen several derailments on the red line including this one in august. many can't forget the deadliest in the transit system's history

back in 2009. >> we are undergoing major track work and that's why we have the weekend closures. it is dangerous work and these workers are going into the system all over the system so that we can get it in the state of good repair that customers deserve. >> the red line is the oldest and busiest in the entire transit system. crews were working as part of the transit's $5 billion capital improvement program. a maryland state trooper remains in serious condition tonight after being hit by a car on route 100. it happened around 1:00 this morning in anne arundel county. we have the details. >> reporter: the trooper has been with maryland state police for just over a year. this accident a reminder for drivers to move over for emergency vehicles. maryland state police say trooper jacqueline kline was hit by a driver who failed to obey the move over law. >> a tragic example of what can occur when vehicles get too

chose to our police officers out there. >> reporter: around 1 this morning another trooper pulled over a suspected dunk driver. jacqueline helped to assist, and a car driven by enrique guzman hit her while she was walking on the shoulder. the impact was so strong it sent her flying into the air into the back of another trooper's windshield. >> she actually broke the rear windshield and hit that k-9 cage that was inside the car this. she fell off into a ditch near the vehicle. >> reporter: kline is in shock trauma with head injuries, a broken arm, cuts and contusions. just last year another trooper was hit after a tractor-trailer failed to change lanes. >> i've been hit by a car. >> reporter: and in 2011 theresa rigby was thrown over the jfx after a driver tried to pass another car lost control causing

to send her over the barrier. the move over law was passed in 2010. all three of these accidents, including kline's, have happened after the fact. a reminder to drivers the law is there for a reason. >> it's important to stay as far away from them as possible for this reason. >> reporter: charges are pending against the driver who hit kline. trooper kline graduated from the academy in 2010. her boyfriend is also a trooper with maryland state police. a firefighter is recovering after being hurt in a house fire. crews were called to the scene on hilltop drive in pasadena. a juvenile escaped the blaze. more than 40 firefighters responded and it took nearly 2 hours to get it under control. the fire caused $150,000 in

the blaze from moving northeast. nearly 1500 acres of camp pendleton is now scorched. most residents are being allowed back into their homes. the cause of that fire is under investigation. divers recover the bodies of 83 more african migrants after a boat capsized off the southern italy. 200 people and 150 are still missing. pope francis prayed for the missing today and has called the incident a "thorn in his heart." a monster truck charges into a crowd in a show in mexico killing eight people, chug three children. -- including three children. . were injured. the driver appeared to lose control of his vehicle after leaping over several cars. he had alcohol in his system at the time but they have not released his blood alcohol level. a shocking stunt in minneapolis. a 9-year-old boy sneaks right through security and boards that flight without a ticket. the boy who ran away from home passed through security checkpoints that did not require photo i.d.s for children. he was pretending to be part of another family and then he slipped on to a flight to las vegas. >> all of this is to keep us safer and it has, but we have gaping holes and this was a perfect example of it. >> luckily flight attendants realized he wasn't on the list of unattended minors and contacted the police who took the boy into custody when the plane landed. closer to home, maryland residents are celebrating the bay, it's called from the bay

for the bay. a week-long celebration of maryland seafood benefitting the oyster recovery process. it's a chance for patrons to eat up by giving back. >> reporter: it's considering a good way to help watermen. >> we're connected in the bay no matter where you live in the maryland region. >> reporter: from the bay for the bay adds the oyster recovery partnership, it works throughout the mid-atlantic to replenish the population of the oysters. >> an oyster filters water every day. >> reporter: it's the third year for the department of natural resource and its partners to sponsor the event. the goal is to highlight the

over. 1 to 3 inches of rain could be seen through monday. and local, local forecasters are telling us to take an umbrella tomorrow. >> that's right. we could see anywhere from half an inch to an inch and a half of rainfall so even though we're not necessarily going to get any of the moisture from karen directly we had still get a decent amount of rainfall. much needed, too, because we haven't had rain in quite a while. and we're going to cool down. take a look at current temperatures across the region. mild out there now. mild overnight. right now we're sitting right at 73 degrees at bwi marshal. the cool spot is in oakland, 66 degrees. upper 60s in bellair to around the mid-70s. winds are moving out of the south. they've picked up a little bit and that's going to help perhaps fuel a few thunderstorms as wie head into tomorrow afternoon and

evening. that's going to be something we'll be watching as we head into tomorrow. the big picture on satellite and radar showing the cool front located right along the tennessee river valley and great lakes region. that will be pushing into our area and as it does, it's going to bring us a decent amount of rainfall. karen's moisture will stay to our south but we will still get a whopping amount of rainfall going into tomorrow. warm moist air that's been in place, those winds push off into the atlantic. the cold front heads our way located behind that cold front much cooler air. so it's going to bring us a very seasonal forecast into tuesday and onward into the start of next weekend. we could see half an inch to an inch and a half of rainfall locally here in maryland. playing out through wednesday, though, that cold front gets out of here very quickly. high pressure then builds in tuesday and that's going to take us through the rest of the work week. so more dry weather once we get to
